Product Description
Balneum Plus Cream 500g
Why We Chose This Product
- Balneum plus is a cream, which means it's a thick moisturiser, but not as greasy as an ointment.
- This cream contains no fragrances or colourings, so it is less likely to cause an allergic reaction (contact allergy) to the skin.
- Balneum plus contains urea, which is a natural moisturising factor. This is found naturally within the skin. Natural moisturising factors bind water to hydrate the skin.
- Balneum contains 5% urea, which is a mild concentration. For a stronger concentration of urea (for thick and scaly skin), see Altruist Dry Skin Repair Cream.
- Urea also has mild anti-bacterial activity and helps restore Filaggrin, a key component of the skin barrier.
- Balneum plus contains lauromacrogol (polidocanol). This is an anaesthetic and anti-itch ingredient, which can be useful in eczema. One study showed lauromacrogol cream reduced itch in healthy patients. However, there are no studies showing that this can help eczema itch specifically.
- Suitable for adults and children.
Cautions
- Use of moisturisers in the bath can or shower be a slip hazard
- Moisturisers are flammable. Over long periods moisturisers can build-up on fabric (clothing, bedding etc), making these materials flammable. Washing clothing and bedding may reduce this build-up but not totally remove it.
- Balneum plus does contain some preservatives so there is a small risk of allergic reaction. For people with allergy prone skin, ointments such as Epaderm ointment are better. Do not use if you are allergic to any of the ingredients listed.
- Avoid contact with eyes. In case of contact, rinse thoroughly with water.
- Do not use this medicine on the breasts immediately prior to breastfeeding.
- There is a risk of a burning sensation, redness, itching, the formation of pustules or worsening of eczema when used on inflamed skin. Don't use if your eczema is very inflamed or widespread.
